Operations Manager East

REPORTS TO: Head of Operations – Grounds

Our family run business is looking for an Operations Manager to lead our grounds maintenance teams in East Anglia and Norwich.

As a member of the management team you will be expected to support the Senior Management Team in developing and delivering the organisational vision and values within all business activities. As a representative of the business you will ensure that our colleagues, clients and supply chain understand and engage with our vision and values.

You will manage client relationships whilst maintaining compliance with industry standards, client specifications and organisational policy and procedure. The right candidate will ensure that the administration team are equipped and prepared to deal with customer communications in a prompt and professional manner. Inc. but not exclusive to; praise, queries, complaints and quotations.

Using your knowledge of customer requirements, team skills and statutory requirements the candidate will successfully programme cyclical works for all teams and ensuring that these are either delivered as expected or rescheduled so as to minimise disruption to remaining works.

Grounds Maintenance Operative

In this rewarding role you will play an important part in maintaining the grounds around defence assets in the Lincolnshire area. You’ll be responsible to the Team Leader and will be required to work alongside other operatives to undertake the grounds maintenance on and around our river networks.

You will undertake work in compliance with the CGM Group’s health and safety policies and procedures in order to minimise the risk to themselves and others.

You will ensure all work is carried out with due regard to environmental and conservation needs to reduce the environmental impact.

You will suggest and put forward new ideas/methods of working which improve safety, efficiency and effectiveness.

Experience/skills required  

  • Full driving licence essential.
  • You’ll have an enthusiastic and positive attitude to health and safety, the environment and working in a team.
  • You’ll be given all the training you need to further your development and skills.
  • Act as a team player with good site knowledge, demonstrating a can-do attitude. Possess ability and knowledge with appropriate behaviours.
  • You will have good interpersonal skills and communication skills

Desirable qualifications/experience (not essential)

  • City and Guilds Level 2 award in agricultural tractor driving and related operations.
  • Experience maintaining vegetation working alongside/on the watercourse
  • Reed/weed cutting using self-propelled boats
  • City and Guilds qualification in chainsaw related operations
  • Experience using 2 stroke machinery

Landscape Manager

REPORTS TO: Head of Operations

As the Project manager you will play a key role in leading the delivery of public realm construction projects from £10,000 to £1m.

Working within our projects team, this varied role will involve taking projects at their pre-construction phase; informing the final stages of the design process, and resolving the practical limitations of the design in relation to the existing built environment on site.

In addition to the project-specific responsibilities, the Operations Manager with the support of a Junior Estimator will be responsible for the submission of monthly valuations for their projects and for efficient and effective cost control of the projects which they are managing. This will include, but not be limited to, auditing and managing the buying on projects and measuring the project to determine any variation costs.

The Operations Manager (Projects) will be responsible for assisting the Head of Operations in the adequate resourcing of the Company’s projects. This will include identifying skills shortages; assessing our resource requirements; interviewing and recruiting staff and managing their training and development on site.

Hard Landscaper


  • Completing hard landscaping works in accordance with the agreed specifications, contract, budgets and time
  • Constantly striving to ensure that all works exceed the standards expected
  • Works may include but are not exclusive to:
    • Minor demolitions
    • Walling
    • Kerbs
    • Timber edgings
    • Paviors

Soft Landscaper

Our Projects department carries out works for a wide range of discerning clients; the successful candidate will be one who is able to work well in both a large team, but also individually, sharing their skills and ideas. Being a member of this department means that you will predominantly be required to carry out soft landscaping work, however, you will also be required to work on hard landscaping projects as our order book dictates.

Job duties would include, but are not limited to:

  • Groundworks and cultivation
  • Planting
  • Turfing
  • Seeding
  • Mulching

Salary: Dependent on experience

Previous Experience: 3 – 5 years minimum

Required licences or certification:

    • Full driving licence essential

Grounds Maintenance Operatives

JOB TITLE: Grounds Maintenance Operative
REPORTS TO: Assistant Contracts Manager
DEPT: Grounds Maintenance

To form part of the Grounds Maintenance Team responsible for achieving high standards for the Maintenance of a variety of sites including sports pitches, church yards, villages greens, private & public gardens, community homes etc


  • To operate a range of commercial equipment from tractors and ride on mowers to strimmers, hedge cutters and line marking equipment
  • To ensure all machinery, equipment and vehicles are well maintained at all times
  • Ensuring all machinery, equipment and vehicles used are clean, present, safely stored, free from rubbish and fit for purpose.

Duties will include:

  • Litter picking
  • Litter bin emptying
  • Mowing grass areas
  • Strimming
  • Pruning shrubs and hedges with mechanical and hand operated equipment.
  • Minor tree works
  • Weeding
  • Leaf collecting
  • Edging
  • Digging / forking of beds and borders
  • Dead heading of flowers
  • Planting new areas
  • Soil preparation
  • Turfing
  • Fertiliser spreading
  • Marking out of sports pitches
  • Over marking of sport pitches

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Current valid driving licence with category B1
  • NVQ in horticulture related subject or equivalent

CGM Ltd is an Environmental Services Provider with an Arboricultural Association Approved Contractor department working throughout East Anglia. We are looking for qualified and experienced arborists and groundsmen to join our existing teams. Positions are available at our various depots throughout East Anglia carrying out a full range of arboricultural services to our diverse client base.

The following qualifications would be desirable alongside a minimum of 2 years practical experience

  • NPTC CS 30, 31, 38, 39, 40, 41
  • Full clean driving licence (With B+E or Pre-97 an advantage)
  • First Aid

Salary will be dependent on experience and skills.
