Country Grounds Maintenance Scoops National Landscape Award

Date: September 18, 2014

Country Grounds Maintenance (CGM) has won a prestigious national landscape award for grounds maintenance at Thetford Town Council’s Kings House Gardens.

The British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) accolade resulted from a rigorous judging process with judges impressed by the high level of grounds maintenance at the gardens, attention to detail, introduction of new features and the allocation of a full-time gardener, Adam Chown. The award follows previous success in 2012 where CGM scooped two other awards and is the only BALI award winner from Norfolk.

Tom Tree, General Manager of CGM was delighted to pick up the company’s third BALI award in three years. “We are very proud to win such a prestigious award,” said Tom.

“We manage many sites across East Anglia and always try to demonstrate a quality service, attention to detail and over delivery for our customers. We assigned a full-time gardener at Kings House Gardens and Adam Chown is always looking to take the gardens to a new level. To be creative and befitting of an area that is often used for weddings and celebrations and we have all enjoyed watching the gardens and his career bloom over the years.”

The Staniforth Trust, who own the gardens, released the following statement: “Kings House and its gardens were bequeathed in the will of George W Staniforth as part of the Staniforth Trust to be maintained for the benefit of the people of Thetford and is governed by the town councillors in their roles as trustees.

“CGM have been contracted to maintain and develop the garden for several years now in which time the garden has improved year on year to the very high standard we enjoy now.

“Particular praise should go to Adam Chown whose dedication and hard work is an inspiration in itself. Working alongside the trustees he has produced ‘Jubilee Beds’ and small memorial gardens amongst the immaculately maintained borders bringing pleasure to both locals and tourists who visit the gardens.”

Wayne Grills, BALI Chief Operations Officer said: “The standard of entries submitted this year has been phenomenal and many entries were fiercely contested, leaving the panel with very difficult choices to make.

“As a chosen winner Country Grounds Maintenance has demonstrated exemplary standards of professional excellence which is a tremendous achievement.”
